Story of survival
BRIMFIELD David Stanley credits the weatherman with saving his family. They were glued to the television last Wednesday in the minutes before a tornado hit his Paige Hill Road home.“The Weather Channel saved our life, because it told us it was coming and we did what we were told,” Mr. Stanley said. “They said first comes the hail, then comes the tornado. They said, if you hear the freight train, it's too late. And so, we saw the hail. We got into the back (of the basement). Things were getting kind of iffy and things started just feeling really weird.”
Mr. Stanley, a popular science teacher at Tantasqua Regional High School in Sturbridge, lives at 44 Paige Hill Road. He was in the back of his basement, huddled under a mattress with his wife, 15-year-old son and two dogs, when the tornado hit.
